Back in February this year we did a trimming of the "Other" category at PissRIP. Here is the reasoning we provided you at the time:


"Other" category was problematic for us for years:
1. It deviated significantly from the rest of the site, primarily devoted to studio content;
2. It did not fit into the whole "category" system, as there's no way to organize a "category" with 13000 clips in it;
3. It would not be rational to introduce the tags system after 5 years of running the site - for the sake of 1 category;
4. By definition, "Other" accepted everything, and as such was a huge trash hazard;
5. Amateur models, by far the largest chunk of all "Other" content are a thing of its own, and require a level of commitment (updates, maintenance, time, resources) of a separate site - one we are realistically unable to provide.
6. Hosting all this content, while procuring more and more at the same time, was not commercially viable (not enough interest/demand from the community).



As you can see, it mostly had to do with the reality of our old engine, which severely limited our ability for both organizing content and analytics. So we simply did what we believed best at the time - deleted pretty much every video from "Other" that did not manage to get at least 2-3 likes over the years. Although in hindsight we realize that likes alone are not a metric representative enough, and that we perhaps cleaned the category more vigorously than we should have, making some of our members unhappy in the process.

As a result of upgrade to the new engine and a merge of all the content from our old sites, the amateur content ended up split between the "Amateur Collections" and "Amateur Videos" categories. We decided to get rid of the latter and stick with the "Collections" philosophy we adopted for PissRIP.

What does all of this mean, in practice?

1. We recognize there is indeed sufficient interest/demand for amateur models, and as such we will commit to satisfying it going forward here at Vids. That being said, our approach in regards to "Collections" content will be that of DesperVids (providing only the best/most popular content) rather than of PissRIP (providing absolutely everything from the creator in existence).

2. In order to prevent another trash dump from forming in the "Collections", we will be analyzing the category periodically and deleting the clips that are not popular enough. Since this might create an unlikely, but still possible situation where your favorite amateur clip ends up deleted, we suggest you download and otherwise interact with them, such as leave a like or a comment. Please mind that this policy will be specific to "Collections" because of its nature, and will not affect other categories - aka, our other content is safe and is not going anywhere.
